Mysore-style Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga can be attended by both beginners and more advanced practitioners. It is the more traditional approach to learning yoga asana (postures), where each student learns and advances at their own pace and gradually memorizes the postures over time, receiving individual guidance and attention from their teacher. This style of learning is deeply personal, and particularly important as you progress through more advanced postures, to ensure safety and proper technique. All are welcome to join this class and experience the opportunity to study in the Mysore style. Complimentary mats and props are available in the studio.
This class is with Swaran Kaur Khalsa. Swaran has practiced yoga for over 30 years and has taught continuously since 2006. She is Authorized Level 1 and 2 in Ashtanga Yoga.
Session Price Per Person: $25.
*Spaces are limited. Advance registration is required for all classes
A discounted class pass is also available when you commit to four (4 ) classes within a six (6) week period. A 4-class pass can be purchased here.

ABOUT ASHTANGA VINYASA
For those new to the practice, Ashtanga Vinyasa is a yoga practice that involves a coordinated progression of asanas, moving from simple to more advanced, with synchronized movement and breath (Vinyasa). You will learn the Tristhana Method of practice in which you learn to concentrate your attention on your posture, breath and gaze. This class is taught in the tradition of K. Pattabi Jois, in which there are six series of postures. This class is best suited for students progressing through the first two series (primary and intermediate series).
The first series, referred to as the primary series, is intended to be therapeutic to the body. It builds strength and flexibility, steadies the mind, and purifies the body. Most people that practice Ashtanga Vinyasa will spend years progressing through this series. The second (intermediate) series includes more advanced asanas that require more strength, deeper back bending, and hip opening, with a focus on cleansing the nervous system. Beyond this, there are 4 advanced series (A/B/C/D) which are not taught in this class.
Mysore style is named after the city in South India, where Sri T. Krishnamacharya, known as the source of most modern yoga, lived and taught many well-known teachers including, K. Pattabhi Jois, BKS Iyengar, BNS Iyengar and TKV Desikachar.
Free study sheets for the primary series are available to download here.
